Volunteer
Protect Land. Build Trails. Make a Difference.
We believe in the power of community to protect the places we love. Our volunteers are essential to everything we do—from maintaining trails to supporting events, photographing our beautiful preserves, and offering professional expertise.
Whether you have a few hours or want to dig into a longer-term role, we welcome you and will provide training, if necessary. Join us and be part of a local movement to preserve North Salem’s natural beauty for generations to come.

Ways to Get Involved
Trail Team
Join staff on scheduled volunteer days to help build, maintain or clean up trails. It's an easy and fun way to meet the community and gain stewardship training. Here's a perfect opportunity for students seeking community service or companies fostering corporate volunteerism.
Land Steward
Become a dedicated steward of one of our preserves. Land stewards receive an NSOLF cap and training needed. With 30 preserves, one or two volunteers are assigned to keep an eye on one of their choice. We ask that you visit at least once in fall and spring to complete an online report on its condition, such as fallen trees, hanging branches or any trail disturbances. Land stewards are honored every fall/winter at a wine and cheese gathering.
Land Photographer
Explore NSOLF’s protected landscapes and capture the beauty of nature. Your digital photos may be featured in our publications, social media and outreach materials.
Event Crew
Assist with check-in, setup, or clean-up at community events. It’s a great way to meet neighbors and support our mission.
Not Seeing the Right Fit?
